Elephants In The Mist (Detail)
Artist's Statement
For me art is emotive, not representative, and this is what I try to invoke with my paintings. An amalgamation of the spiritual and metaphysical - a call to sense-memory or dreams, even if my subject is figurative.
I always work in oil because I am attracted by its luminescent quality, its ability to render refractions of light and reflection. I like to build up layers, then take them away again, leaving the viewer with a sense of peace and rumination. A gateway to the subconscious. My paintings are particularly inspired by my world travels, and I work from memory and imagination as well as my own photographs or sketches. Emotional landscapes, seascapes, and snapshots, - I invite my audience to join me on my very personal journey.
